5.8.2020 Suit Up!

The anointed song today is from Hosanna—Mighty Warrior, Dressed for Battle

Scripture today:

Judges 6:12 When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior!”

God has provided a glorious inheritance for all believers. Our inheritance includes dominion over all the works of darkness, including sin, sickness, disease, and spiritual death. Christ had complete victory over Satan on the cross, yet Satan was allowed a certain amount of freedom to tempt, deceive & lie to God’s people. We still live in a fallen world & there are certain battles which Christ says we must fight. Always remember that Satan HAS BEEN DEFEATED & has no authority over the believer unless we give it to him. That is where we need training. Christ trained his disciples in this, and they trained those in their charge. They were trained not to be WIMPY, but powerful through Christ! Basic Training in Christ’s Army! Why do I need to be a soldier of the cross? Because Christ assured us we would need it—as there would be times we would come under spiritual attack.

SO, "What can I do when I am under spiritual attack?" The first thing to do when we believe we may be under a spiritual attack is to determine, as best we can, whether what we are experiencing is truly a spiritual attack from demonic forces or simply the effects of living in a sin-cursed world. Some people blame every sin, every conflict, and every problem on demons they believe need to be cast out. The apostle Paul instructs Christians to wage war against the sin in themselves (Romans 6) and to wage war against the evil one (Ephesians 6:10-18). But whether we are truly under spiritual attack from demonic forces or just battling the evil in ourselves and that which inhabits the world, the battle plan is the same. The key to the battle plan is found in Ephesians 6:10-18. Paul begins by saying that we must be strong in the Lord and in His power, not in our own power which is no match for the devil and his forces. Paul then exhorts us to put on the armor of God, which is the only way to take a stand against spiritual attacks. In our own strength and power, we have no chance of defeating the “spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (v. 12). Only the “full armor of God” will equip us to withstand spiritual attack. We can only be strong in the Lord’s power; it is God’s armor that protects us, and our battle is against spiritual forces of evil in the world. Ephesians 6:13-18 gives a description of the spiritual armor God gives us, and the good news is that these things are readily available to all who belong to Christ. We are to stand firm with the belt of truth, buckle on the breastplate of righteousness, wear on our feet the gospel of peace, hold up the shield of faith, wear the helmet of salvation, and wield the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God—the only offensive weapon in the whole armory. The rest are defensive. What do these pieces of spiritual armor represent in spiritual warfare? We are to speak the truth against Satan’s lies.

We are to rest in the fact that we are declared righteous because of Christ’s sacrifice for us. We are to proclaim the gospel no matter how much resistance we receive. We are not to waver in our faith, no matter how fiercely we are attacked. Our ultimate defense is the assurance we have of our salvation, an assurance that no spiritual force can take away. Our offensive weapon is the Word of God, not our own opinions and feelings. Finally, we are to follow Jesus’ example in recognizing that some spiritual victories are only possible through prayer & fasting. Jesus is our ultimate example when it comes to warding off spiritual attacks. Observe how Jesus handled direct attacks from Satan when He was tempted by him in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11). Each temptation was answered the same way—with the words “It is written” and a quote from the Scriptures. Jesus knew the Word of the living God is the most powerful weapon against the temptations of the devil. If Jesus Himself used the Word to counter the devil, do we dare to use anything less?

EPHESIANS 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

The Holy Spirit wants us to understand Jesus' complete victory over Satan in the triumph of the cross. He wants us to see what Jesus' seating on High really means to us and the rights and privileges we have in Christ. We are seated with Christ in heavenly places! And that position is one of authority, honor, and triumph—not one of failure, depression, and defeat.

MANY believers have been ignorant of Satan's devices, and he has been able to take advantage of them. But the Spirit of God wants us to understand the authority we have in Christ.

We are no longer subject to Satan because we have been delivered from his dominion and authority (Col. 1:13). God wants the Body of Christ to know that we aren't a defeated Church—we are a triumphant Church. We are to reign in life through Jesus Christ because of our position of authority over the devil. When the eyes of our understanding are enlightened, we will stand in our place of authority as the triumphant Church upon the earth.

PRAYER: Abba Father, this is a mighty request you have of us! Lord, help us to understand your ways. We ask you to enlighten us, teach us your ways, remove the fear, & grant us WISDOM & insight so we do not battle from our own understanding, strength, plans—but only from yours.

We stand firm, sometimes we will be told to STAND STILL & SEE THE SALVATION OF THE LORD—supernatural deliverance. Sometimes you tell us to SUIT UP & do our part—using the Sword of the Spirit—the Word of God—as our weaponry!

So today WE SUIT UP: Lord, I put on the Helmet of Salvation, I put on the Breastplate of YOUR Righteousness, I put on the Belt of Truth, I take the Shield of Faith in my hand & hold it up to squelch the fiery darts (deception, lies, temptations, accusations, etc) of the enemy, and in the other hand I take up the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, to rightly divide the Word of Truth! Lastly, I put on the shoes of peace---and mobility. I am ready to go where you send me, & am fully equipped. Fill me with your Holy Spirit & I go out in YOUR POWER & AUTHORITY, UNDER YOUR DIRECTION & COMMAND. AMEN.
