4.10.2020 Good Friday

Today is Good Friday—the day Jesus was crucified & died. This season is linked closely to Passover---and we believe Christ is our Passover! Why? He was crucified, bled & shed His blood for us. In Passover so long ago—the Isrealites were told to apply the BLOOD---which was a forward promise/provision of what Christ would accomplish many years later.

This morning on the “Listening Post” came the words—“Go Quickly!” OK Lord! Lets look at:

Exodus 12:11 This is how you are to eat it (the unleavened bread—there was no time to have it raise!): with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet (ready to travel—go quickly!) and your staff (symbol of the authority God gives you to defeat the enemy!) in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.

24 “Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants. 25 When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. 26 And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped. 28 The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron.

The Exodus 31 During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. 32 Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.” 33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!”

See how God orchestrated all these events! During this time, God made a supernatural way for them to escape Egypt----so now was the Great Escape! The same principle is applied to us as we recognize Passover time—be ready to leave the past behind, the old ways, and go where God sends you. For us today—that may not mean moving to a new location—but moving out of our old traditions, old ways of doing things that no longer bring life—but death. I believe God is saying, “I have spared you because you have applied the blood of Jesus to your lives, your homes & families….but you must go quickly, be ready—have your coat & shoes on—not pajamas! You must not stay where you are, I have something NEW FOR YOU but you must leave the old behind to acquire the new.”

Exodus 12 continues: 40 Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. 41 At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt. 42 Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.

All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. 51 And on that very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.

What do you think the Lord is saying to you this morning? We have never had a Passover like this one before—with the global pandemic. Would He be saying to us as well—“Go quickly. Leave the old behind. Get your coat, shoes on, take some provisions with you (unleavened bread & wine—water, likely as well) and get going. “Listen to me, do as I say—it is imperative that you do what I ask you—quickly. Don’t give anymore place to the world, flesh & the devil. You have a new life now!”

Right now it seems we are being sent to the safety of our homes! We are experiencing a change of lifestyle. We do not do the things we used to do. Are we lonesome for the old things? Maybe at first—but as we experience this NEW PLACE with God & family—we will come to treasure it and see that God has brought good out of a terrible situation. He will bring us out of Egypt (the old ways) & bring us to the Promised Land He has prepared for us! And best of all—a new relationship with our Lord!

PRAYER: Abba Father, we hear your WORD today & thank you for bringing us to this promised land of safety as we hunker in –trusting in where you have taken us. We have tried hard to be compliant with the new “sheltering at home” orders—but we also trust in the provision of Christ’s blood on the doorposts & threshold of our lives, families, homes, vehicles, professions, ministries, finances, and all those we come into contact with & them with us. We trust that as we pray and ask YOU to hedge us in (so the devil or any disease cannot attack us) YOU will do it! You said in the Bible: “If my children ask for bread, I will not give them a stone”…meaning He will answer our prayers!

We praise & thank you today for your tender loving care, Your life within us and all around us. We thank you for dispatching holy angels to care for us, too. And today we pray, “Bless the Lord, Oh my soul--& all that is within me, bless His Holy Name! Amen
